Becca Compact Concealer Review (With before & after photos)!

I'm the prowl for a new concealer! As of lately I've been stuck mostly on my MAC Prolongwear Concealer, MAC Studio Finish Concealer and Coastal Scents Camo Quad. But, you all know me by now, and I get bored quickly with the same ol' products every day, and love switching it up and discovering new products.

I've been wearing MUFE Full Cover Concealer every once in a while, but the more I use it, the more I kinda realize I'm not a huge fan. Any lovers of Make Up Forever Full Cover out there? After a few hours I notice it settles kinda funny and it causes my eye makeup to transfer.

Anyways, Since my complexion has been resembling Snow White lately, I needed to find a concealer light enough to match my skintone that offers heavy coverage and is also long lasting.

So, I was recommended to try out Becca's concealer. I've never tried anything from Becca before, so I excited to give it a go. It turns out Becca Compact Concealer is everything I was looking for. 

Becca Compact Concealer consists of two concealers - one is called the "extra cover" and one is called the "medium cover". The idea is to create the amount of coverage you'd like - by layering or using each of them on different areas of the face.

The "medium cover" works great for the under-eyes and the "extra-cover" works great for spots on the face, as they often need more coverage. The consistency of the "extra-cover" concealer is slightly drier, so it's very ideal for spots, as it's not going to budge/fade.

Becca Compact Concealer comes in a huge variety of shades (34 to be exact) to match all skintones - from very fair to deep dark. I've never seen so many shades - especially for a concealer, so there shouldn't be too many problems finding your perfect shade.

I have the shade Sherbet, which is a duo of two fair shades. They're almost identical, except one of them is slightly peachier. It's a pretty nice match if you're around the MAC NC15 coloring.

Here are both shades swatched on my hand. My hands are a little darker than my face, but on my face, it's a spot on match.

This is definitely a drier consistency concealer, so to avoid any accentuation of dryness, it's a good idea to moisturize your skin prior or after it's applied, lightly go over the area with a slightly damp cosmetic sponge in light "press and roll" motions.

The coverage is great. I usually always apply a thin layer of the medium coverage side and then go over any extra darkness with the extra-cover side.

It has a fairly matte finish, and although it's matte, I always make sure to set my under-eyes with a powder to avoid creasing. I have worn this without setting it with powder and experienced product settling in my fine lines (it will happen with any cream concealer). When I set with a powder, I have no problems at all. *For reference, most of the time I use Ben Nye Neutral Set Powder. I've been using it for years and it's still my favorite.

For spots: I like using a small pointed liner brush for precise application (and to lessen waste of any product). I'll lightly apply the concealer to the blemish completely covering it, and then with a fluffier eyeshadow brush (such as a blending brush) I'll lightly (with no pressure) blend out the edges so the concealer blends in with my skin.
For under-eyes: I sometimes use a brush, and sometimes use my finger. To lessen waste of product, I'll more often use a small brush, then apply it to my under-eyes and blend with my finger with light tapping motions (no rubbing). Using my finger works well as the heat from my finger also helps soften the product so it spreads easier on my skin. Sometimes I'll go over the area with a blending brush to pick up any excess product that may be "chillaxin" in my fine lines.

As you can see, the coverage is quite good. It covers my darkness and sun spots and and brightens up the area very well.

I don't have too many blemishes at the moment (thank goodness all of my L'oreal Infallible Foundation caused blemishes all went away), but I wanted to show the coverage for spot concealing. 

It completely covered my freckle and few red spots. 

I find that the lasting power is very good. By the end of the day it's all still in tact.

Now, the only downside about this stuff is the price-tag and the availability. There's really nowhere near me that I can find this product other than a couple of spas/salons which I will not be going to in order to purchase Becca products. Depending on your location, you may be lucky enough to find a counter near you. Otherwise, you can purchase products directly off their website, Apothica.com (there are often coupon codes available, so check Google first!) and Dermstore.com.

As for the price, I'll go into more details about it below.

PROS: I really like the idea of having two different coverage concealers in one compact. It's very handy that you can have your product for under-eyes and spots all-in-one. A full coverage is hard to find, and this product provides a full coverage that doesn't feel or look heavy and lasts all day.
CONS: The only real con is the price. It's (are you ready?) $38 for 0.1 oz! That is 3 dinky grams of product for a mere $40. That adds up to almost $360 an ounce. For comparison, MAC Studio Finish Concealer costs $17 for 0.24 oz/7grams of product and around $69 an ounce. Mac Studio Finish is a really good less-expensive option that works almost as good.
PACKAGING: The packaging is nothing spectacular. It's made of that same rubberized material that Nars packaging comes in - so it gets dirty very easily (but cleans just as easily with a makeup remover wipe). The plus side with it is it's small and very compact, so it's ideal for travel, and it has a mirror for application and/or touch-ups.
OVERALL: I can't say that this product is a good value for the amount of money you pay, but it really is a fantastic product. We all kind of have our "set price" we're willing to pay for certain cosmetics, so it really depends on you and your budget!

In other news, I've been a little absent these past couple of days because my aunt is in town - permanently! She's lived in another state all my life, and finally decided to pack her bags and move close to us in Chicago. I don't really have a big family and I'm only close with two of my aunts, so it's really nice to be even closer now, especially since it's been really hard on my family since my Dad's passing (it still feels weird to say this as I'm still in denial of it all). Family really is everything and I'm so grateful to be surrounded by so many loved ones.

I'm sure you all know by now that I'm a foundation addict. I love trying new foundations, whether it be drugstore (I don't discriminate!) or high-end, I'm totally interested.

I recently picked up L'Oreal Infallible Foundation on my recent trip to CVS because I had some extra-cash to blow that was ready to expire (literally - it was around 11:30 PM and it expires at midnight).

I've tried L'Oreal's Infallible Lipgloss in the past and v Liked it, Recently tried their new Infallible Eyeshadows and v Loved it. So naturally, I became curious to see if their other products were just as good.

L'Oreal Infallible Foundation claims to provide 18 hours of flawless, fade-proof and shine-free coverage, while withstanding heat and humidity and providing sun protection (SPF 20). It's also supposedly ideal for all skin types.

There are fourteen (14) shades to choose from: Soft Ivory, Classic Ivory, Natural Ivory, Nude Beige, Natural Buff, Creamy Natural, Natural Beige, Buff Beige, Sand Beige, True Beige, Sun Beige, Classic Tan, Soft Sable and Cocoa.

I chose Nude Beige, which is alright, but it's not the best match for my skintone. It's a little too neutral (gray) for me, but it's workable. It seems like a good match, but when blended, it appears slightly darker.

Alright, so the consistency of the product is pretty nice. I was expecting it to be thick, considering many say it has pretty good coverage, but it's actually on the thin side (not runny or watery - somewhat comparable to Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation). It's definitely thinner than Maybelline Superstay Foundation and Revlon Colorstay Foundation. It's light and creamy and blends nicely. Just make sure to give it a good shake before you apply it.

L'Oreal Infallible Advanced Never Fail Makeup

The coverage is a light medium, that is buildable to a higher-medium coverage, but it never fully reaches a full coverage. I have a couple red blemishes (Thank you, Infallible) on my cheek and it doesn't conceal the redness 100%. I'd like to mention that it builds very nicely. While testing out the coverage, I actually built three thin layers and it didn't look cakey. Two coats is pretty good coverage for me though. One light coat with a standard flat foundation brush, and an additional with a stippling foundation brush. I'll make sure my face is primed/moisturized, so the foundation won't adhere to any dry areas.

The finish is semi-matte, with a slight radiance. I don't feel the need to set with a powder, but after a few hours I'll get a little shiny, so especially for those who are prone to shine, powdering is probably a good idea.

I don't find the staying power to be very good though for a foundation that states to last for 18 hours. There are extremely mixed reviews for the wear time - some say it lasts for 12 hours, some say it merely lasts 3 hours. On my skin, this foundation fades a bit within 5 hours and has faded considerably after 8 hours. It's definitely not the worst, it's pretty average for a drugstore foundation, but I had higher expectations for it. Maybelline Superstay definitely beats the wear time in my experience with the two.

So here comes the bad news. It broke me out. And I mean, it broke me out like crazy. I look like a hormonal teenager. After wearing it for one day, I woke up with several pimples on both cheeks, in my hairline, above my eyebrows and even a nice large on one of my ears. WTH!? I think this is the first pimple I've had on my ear in my life.

I think this is a foundation you'll either love or hate. Unfortunately, I can't say I love it, and I won't be wearing it again due to the break-outs and the not-so-great color match. I think the claims for this foundation are a little too large. Otherwise, it's not all that bad.

PROS: This foundation has a light texture with easy blendability, a good medium coverage and a pretty nice finish. The color selection is decent (14 shades), that caters to light, medium and dark skintones.
CONS: Although I don't find this foundation to be at all cakey, it can look very unnatural if too much is applied. This foundation claims to be shine-proof, but I experienced shine in a short amount of time and my skin right now is actually on the drier to normal side. Also, the wear-time doesn't come close to it's claims. It claims to last for 18 hours, but I'd say 8 at best - which is pretty average. The biggest con is that it broke me out badly. I haven't had a product break me out this bad in years. Lastly, I purchased this for $14.99 at CVS, which I think is a joke for a drugstore foundation.
PACKAGING: The packaging is great. It comes in a lightweight glass bottle with a pump dispenser. No messy hands here!
OVERALL: Your mileage will vary with this foundation. I would say it's mostly ideal for those looking for a medium coverage with normal to combination skin, as the semi-matte finish can accentuate dry skin, and the shine that appears within a few hours can be bothersome to those with oily skin. I've read several reviews and they are extremely mixed. There are those with dry, normal, oily and acne-prone skin that love it - and there are those that hate it. I would of course forewarn those with sensitive or acne-prone skin to take precaution, as this foundation can cause breakouts.

February Favorites!

TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer - I've been hearing a lot about this highlighter in the beauty blogging world recently, so I decided to get it, and I'm really loving it. My top three highlighers at the moment are Dior Amber Diamond (subtle glow), MAC Honey Rose (pink glow) and now this one has become a favorite. It's a pearly champgane, that's subtle, but a little more glow than Dior Amber Diamond. I'll post a full review soon.

Physician's Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation - Yes, you read that correct. It has an SPF of 50. I'm completely bummed out because this product has been discountinued. I picked it up for 50% off late January and I've been using it almost every day. Considering I exfoliate my skin on the regular, wearing an SPF is a must for me to avoid sun damage on my sensitive skin. I haven't found my favorite lotion yet, so along with my Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation (SPF 20) and this powder applied on top, I have all the sun protection I need. If you can get your hands on this powder, I'd recommend trying it. It'd be great for the summer months!

Coastal Scents Camo Quad (Concealer Wheel) - I purchased this last year, and neglected it for the most part until recently. I have it in the shade "Medium" and when my skintone was in the medium range (when I was self-tanning) the colors were too light and looked ashy under my eyes. When I have no tan, this palette is perfect. It provides an awesome full coverage (similar to MAC Studio Finish) and works great for covering blemishes. It's been my favorite "go-to" concealer for the past couple of months and I've already hit pan on a couple of shades.

Coastal Scents Fan Brush Black - Before purchasing this brush, I had an ELF Studio Fan Brush, which isn't that great, but it'd get the job done for applying my highlighter. This brush is so soft, and three times as large. I love the way it feels on my face, that I've been wearing highlighter every day just so I can use it. I'm sure it'd be great for applying loose powders as well.

Zara Woman Blueberry Rollerball - I picked this up recently during my checkout at Zara and I've been really enjoying using it this month. It's warm, fruity, and so yum. I always roll it on my wrists so when I'm going about my day, I can catch a quick whiff.

MAC Brun Eyeshadow - Espresso and Cork have been my two favorite brow fillers over the years, but I've recently switched to Brun, which is a little ashier and darker than the others. It seems to match my deep-dark brown hair much better.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadows - I've mostly been using Bold Gold and Bad to the Bronze, this month, almost completely neglecting Tough as Taupe. I wear brown eyeshadow on my eyes almost every day, so these work as great bases to keep my eyeshadow going strong all day long.

L'Oreal Infalliable Eyeshadow in Endless Pearl - I really like the look of opaque flesh-toned eyeshadow on the lids, and this one does it for me. Previously I was using MAC Brule, which I will always love, but I have to literally dig in the shadow with a sponge applicator for opaque coverage. It's a bit easier to achieve opaque coverage with Endless Pearl, so I've been reaching for it quite often and really enjoying it these past couple of months.

Physician's Formula Eye Booster Eyeliner in Dark Brown - You may remember my recent review for this liner in black where I raved about how it's my favorite drugstore liner. Well, I picked it up in Dark Brown and it's amazing. If you spot these babies on sale, give 'em a try.

MAC Viva Glam Nicki Lipstick- A vibrant warm, summer pink. What's really not to love? I barely ever wear a soft, neutral lip anymore, and although this lipstick might look crazy and bright in the tube, when patted on the lips with a little bit of gloss, it's a beautiful pink that can be worn every day.

MAC Insanely It Sheen Supreme Lipstick - I posted about this lipstick recently and can't get enough of it. It's sheer with one layer, but very buildable for opaque coverage. I usually only just wear one layer, and sometimes mix in MAC Hue to create a really gorgeous pink.

Wet n Wild Megalast Matte Lipsticks in Dollhouse Pink, Don't Blink Pink and Think Pink - Think Pink (very similar to MAC Creme Cup) is a shade I've had forever and it's been one of my favorites for some time now, but lately I've been reaching for it almost every day to mix in with all of my other bright pinks to tone the brightness down. I love the mixture of Dollhouse Pink or Don't Blink Pink with Think Pink. It makes them much more wearable and less in-your-face. Out of the three, I've been wearing Dollhouse Pink the most (applied sheer, with a lipgloss on top).

Chanel Bagatelle Glossier Lipgloss - I think this is probably my favorite lipgloss ever, and I'm so upset that it's limited edition! It's the perfect warm, shimmering pink that looks beautiful alone, or atop any pink lipstick. Get it while you can!

 Wet n Wild Sugar Coat Mega Last Salon Nail Color 

Early this year Wet n Wild launched new packaging and an improved formula for their Megalast Nail Polishes. The new formula claims to be long-lasting, promising 5 days of wear. They came out with some new colors along with some of the old, with eighteen shades in total (or at least 18 on Wet n Wild's website).

I wanted to give the new formula a shot, and purchased the shade Sugar Coat, which is a pale, milky peach-pink.

The brush is wide and flat, curving at the tip for a one-sweep application. It's similar to the brush of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish or Rimmel Lasting Finish Nail Polish. It's great for those with average to wide nail beds, but may be a little difficult for those with narrow nail beds. I really like the brush, and for my nails, it provides a very even application with less streaks.

Sugar Coat is a really nice natural shade that looks great on it's own or as a pale pink base for french tips. You really only need two coats, but once of my nails ended up a little streaky, so I ended up painting three coats.

The drying time is okay, it's not very fast, but with a fast drying top coat, your nails shouldn't smudge.

I really like this polish, and I'm hoping it lives up to it's 5-day claim. Regardless, a bottle only costs $1.99, so it's not a huge loss.

I'll be updating this post letting you know how long it lasts before chipping or peeling!

Physician's Formula Youthful Wear Youth-Boosting Foundation & Brush Review.

I purchased this foundation a couple months ago when I first spotted it on the rack at CVS. I'm not going to lie, the only reason I purchased it is because I saw the little hot pink sticker stuck to the front that reads "TRY ME FREE" that you may spot every once in a while on newly launched Physician Formula products. When you see that little label on the product, it's basically like a mail-in rebate. You send in your receipt in along with the label, and you will receive your money back for the product. (For more information on PF's rebates, click here.)

I'm always interested in trying new foundations, so I thought it was worth a shot, even though it isn't targeted for my age range. That doesn't really matter though, because I've used "firming" and "age-defying" products before and really liked them.

Anyway, Physician's Formula's new Youthful Wear Foundation claims to even out skintone and texture, blending effortlessly while providing a flawless coverage that will last all day. It also claims to be Physican Formula's first ever "Cosmeceutical" foundation that will help treat visible signs of ageing, restoring skins firmness & elasticity and improving the skins appearance in the long-term. Alright, Physician's Formula, You had me at flawless coverage!

Physician's Formula Youthful Wear Foundation is available in three (3) shades: Fair, Light and Medium. Apparently PF didn't get the memo that there are more than three colored skintones out there. 

The foundation is housed in a little purple squeeze tube, which is great for travel (no bulk), convenience (no struggle getting product out), sanitary and you won't waste any product as you'll be able to squeeze out every last drop. And for those of you that like to cut open your squeeze tubes, to literally get every last drop, you'll be sure to get every molecule.

It also comes with a small synthetic foundation brush, which is very soft and actually works pretty well.

First off, I'd like to mention this is a silicone based foundation. Let me tell you, my personal preference is, I. Hate. Silicone. Unless it's 350cc's of silicone being inserted into my chesticles, I don't want it on my face. Like I said though, it's only my personal preference. For my skin type, silicone based products just make my skin look dull and after several hours, it can feel uncomfortable and oily/itchy on my face.

I chose the shade Light, which is a peachy beige shade. It lacks any real golden tones, but once applied to my face, the color looks much better. After going through different foundations in my stash, it seems to be a perfect MAC NW25 color match, but it can also work for NC20, maybe even NC25 - which is around what I am now. Although it looks a little dark on my hand, it seems to blend well on my face.

The consistency is very light, airy and moussey. It's much like the texture you'd see with a mousse foundation, such as Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse or L'Oreal Magic Souffle Foundation. It blends very well and feels light on the skin. I read in a review that the texture is similar to Laura Mercier Silk Creme, but I disagree completely. Laura Mercier Silk Cream is much creamier and moist. I don't find them comparable.

The coverage is light to medium. It evens out the skintone very well, but my freckles still show through. It has a satiny-matte finish. To add a little glow back into my skin, I like tossing on a little Benefit High Beam on my cheeks.

As for application method, I don't care for the brush it comes with. I like the brush, but not for this foundation. I don't like using my fingers, and I don't like my usual synthetic flat top brush. The best brush I found for this foundation is the good ol' MAC 187 Duo-Fiber Stippling Brush (any skunk brush will do).

Let me tell you though, I have very normal skin. I sometimes apply a moisturizer before a foundation, but not always. I've found that when using this without a moisturizer, this foundation highlights the imperfections on my face and shows dryness I didn't even know existed. It makes my skin look dull and dirty. I then tried using this with a silicone primer and.. *screams* don't ever do it! It balled up all over my face like nobody's business and little balls of foundation fell all over my clothes and in my hair. Don't do it. SO, I applied a good layer of a water based moisturizer mixed with a face illuminator (I used this one I purchased from Forever 21) and then applied the Physician's Formula Foundation and it was like an "AHA!" moment. The foundation seemed to adhere to the moisture on my face, and it blended better on my face and the final result was 100x better. The results were like night and day. You must moisturize your face for the best results and if you'd like an extra glow (since the foundation is matte), add an illuminator in with your moisturizer.

(I applied a layer of DDF Moisturizing Dew mixed with Forever 21's Love & Beauty Illuminator to my face, then using my MAC 187 Brush, I stippled the Physican's Formula Foundation all over my face and swirled the brush in circular motions until all of the product was blended. Then, I applied Benefit High Beam to my cheeks and the bridge of my nose using the same brush. Lastly, I added a little bit of Nars Irrisitiblement Bronzer all over my face for color and Kevyn Aucoin Hot Pink Liquifuschia Cheek Color to the apples of my cheeks.)

The result is incredibly natural, flawless skin. It softens my pores and makes my skin look very smooth. I find the lasting power to be pretty average. It seems to break down a bit after 6 hours. I don't set it with a powder, but I'm sure that would prolong the wear for a couple more hours.

Overall, it took a quite a bit of work to figure out this foundation, and I think it's pretty good. I think it's a terrible foundation for dry skin, and the most suitable for combination/oily skin.

PROS: It has a velvety smooth texture, feels incredibly light on the face (can't feel it at all!), provides a good light-medium coverage and comes with a foundation brush - even if it's not useful for this particular foundation, you may be able to find a use for it. I like using it to apply concealer.
CONS: Limited color selection. There are only three shades: Fair, Light and Medium. There aren't any shades light enough for porcelain skin or medium-dark to deep skintones. The consistency is a little thick, so if there is not enough moisture on the skin, it can be difficult to spread. Looks dull on dry skin. It's quite expensive for a drugstore foundation, at around $14-$15.
PACKAGING: The packaging is great. It's a small squeeze tube, which is great for travel (no bulk), it's sanitary and you won't be wasting any product, as you can squeeze out every last drop.
OVERALL: Overall the foundation isn't bad. It's just so-so to me, and although I will finish up my tube, I don't think I will be re-purchasing it. I think those that will find the best use out of this foundation is those with light to medium skin that leans more towards neutral (as it lacks yellow, but isn't too cool/pink) with minor imperfections. It will even out the skintone and camouflage very minor blemishes. It's best suited for combination to oily skin as it's a foundation that really needs moisture to adhere to, and it also has a satiny matte finish which is great for those with oily skin types. 

Maybelline Bold Gold Eyestudio Color Tattoo Eyeshadow Review!

I previously posted about a couple Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadows last month, and since then have been using them (mostly Bad to the Bronze) a couple days out of the week. 

Shorlty after, I picked up one additional shade, Bold Gold, which is basically a shimmery, medium toned brassy-gold. 

Bold Gold is a great shade that can be used alone, for a simple wash of color across the lids, or it can be used as a base for a powder eyeshadow to prolong the wear of the shadow, and to make any golden hues in the powder eyeshadow stand out more.

One of the ways I like wearing this shadow is applied all over the lid, with a soft brown shadow blended through the crease, and the top lid lined with a dark brown liquid (or pencil) liner for a quick and simple look.

My favorite application method is with my fingers, or a flat synthetic concealer brush. If you want more opaque color, a sponge eyeshadow applicator works well.

One of my favorite color combos is using a gold base with a black eyeshadow layered on top, or vise-versa (black base with gold eyeshadow on top). The two shades create a dark blackened olive green shade. It's a little more fun than your standard black. (See below photo)

Here are a few swatches of different eyeshadows layered over Maybelline Bold Gold. 

Swatches from left to right: Maybelline Bold Gold Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow, Urban Decay Half Baked Eyeshadow (copper-gold) applied over Bold Gold, MAC Gilt By Association Mineralize Eyeshadow (blackened bronze-gold) applied over Bold Gold and MAC Black Tied Eyeshadow (black with silver shimmer) applied over Bold Gold.

Applied over Urban Decay Half Baked, the color appears brighter and much more opaque. Applied over MAC Gilt by Association, again, the color is more opaque, and the golden tones in the shadow are intensified. Applied over MAC Black Tied, the mixture of the black and gold make a pretty shimmery blackened green (Nars Night Clubbing dupe?)

I always used MAC Rubenesque Paint Pot (golden apricot cream shadow) as a base for my gold shadows, but I prefer the color of Bold Gold much more. 

If you wear a lot of warm golden and brown eyeshadows, I think you'll really enjoy this product. It's a very easy to use product, it lasts all day and it's in-expensive.
