Just for fun: A few beauty related things i've realized over the years.

#1 If you should invest your hard earned moolah in one item in your cosmetic bag, it should be a good foundation.
We all know expensive isn't always better, but I do believe if you're going to splurge, splurge on a good foundation. Who really cares about your amazing eye makeup if your foundation looks blotchy? Alright.. I'm not trying to bash all drugstore foundations. There are a few good ones, but you have way more options, and a larger selection of shades to perfectly match your skin when you branch out into the higher end brands. The wonderful thing about getting your foundation from a department store is, you can sample it before purchasing it. Get color matched, and request a sample that will be enough for a few uses. Test it out at home, and see how you like it!

#2 Mascara doesn't need to be purchased anywhere else, other than the drugstore.
When it comes to mascara, there are so many options at the drugstore. I've tried so many high end brands, along with many drugstore brands, and the high end brands never delivered more than the drugstore brands. Especially for a product that will dry up in a few weeks, I find that paying $20 and up for a mascara is a waste of money. You're better off investing in a good mascara base and eyelash curler. Don't get me wrong, curiosity sometimes gets to me and I'll treat myself once in a while, but on an every day basis, drugstore mascara works just as good!
#3 If you tan frequently, have more than one foundation shade on hand.
Especially for those who use self tanner often. Keep a foundation on hand of your actual skin shade, regardless of how light it is. I know many of you probably feel that you look your best with a nice tan, but being fair is just as sexy! I didn't abide by this for years. Can you believe my actual coloring is usually the lightest shade at the drugstore, but I've been self tanning for ten years and throughout the years have only purchased my tan shade!? Talk about pressure to tan every day - If I didn't tan, I had no makeup!

#4 If you're on a life long journey of finding the fullest coverage foundation out there, (where using paint as foundation has crossed your mind at least once) You need to take a step back and take your focus off covering your skin, but fixing your skin.
Of course we all want flawless skin, and we expect our foundation to do the work for us. But, a foundation will never fix the problem - it will only conceal it for a few hours. The key to having flawless skin is by taking good care of your skin. When you have no makeup on, take a look in the mirror and note your problem areas/any issues you have with your skin. Try figuring out what's causing it - improper cleansing? allergic reaction? hormones? your diet? You can find help from various skincare forums online. Or, make an appointment with a local dermatologist. Once you start catering to your skins needs, your skin will start looking better and you'll find yourself looking for foundations with less coverage. Pft! Who would have thought?!

#5 Don't purchase anything without browsing reviews first.
9 out of 10 times, if I'm purchasing any item of makeup, I've done thorough research on it beforehand. The one time out of ten is usually when I've found a too hard to pass up deal, or it was an impulse purchase. My favorite place to check reviews is http://makeupalley.com. You can check reviews for any product and narrow the reviews by skin type, coloring, etc, so you could see if a particular product would possibly work for you. It's easy to navigate and it's free. Of course, a percentage boils down to personal preference. You may love a product with terrible ratings, but if the majority of the ratings are negative, I'll usually skip and look elsewhere.

#6 Cater to your eyebrows.
Along with your skin, eyebrows are one of the most important features on your face that need a little extra care. Having well groomed brows make all the difference in your face. I've learned to work with my brow shape and pluck only my strays a couple times a week. For unruly brows (such as mine), a clear brow gel or clear mascara works great to keep them in place all day. For those with very light colored brows, a tinted brow gel works great to make your brows a little more prominent. For the most natural looking brows, a brow powder/brown matte eye shadow works the best. If you're guilty of over-plucking and are having trouble growing your brows back, check out my post on how to grow them back (here).

* I'll do an updated eyebrow filling tutorial soon!

#7 Take chances with color!
Many people out there are terrified by anything that isn't neutral. I was the same way. I always loved bright colors, but never had enough guts to actually wear them myself. Have you heard the saying "You can't knock something until you try it?" OK. Bad saying. That can go in so many different directions. Disregard that. LOL To get yourself past your fear of color, you just have to go for it. Break the ice by wearing colored eye shadow or a bright lipstick the next time you go out with your friends - you're usually more confident when you've got your girlfriends with you and you won't feel the urge to wipe it off in embarrassment. *The embarrassment is all in your head, BTW! If anyone is looking at you, they're most likely admiring your awesomeness! Then, wear it out again with your friends. After wearing it a couple of times, you should feel comfortable to wear it out on your own.

Milani Rosehip has become one of my favorite lipsticks, and I wear it at least a couple days out of the week. In the past, I'd maybe wear it one day out of the year.

Agree/Disagree with any of my points? Have some things to add to the list? Share in the comments below!

Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Pink Frosting.

Maybelline Pink Frosting Dream Mousse Blush

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Air-whipped mousse blush feels satin-soft on skin, glides on smoothly, and blends easily for seamless color and a natural finish
Long-wearing formula provides luminous, long-lasting color on cheeks without clogging pores?

APPLICATION:
With your fingertips, pat a small amount of blush onto the apples of your cheeks. Use feathery strokes to blend gently from your cheekbones to your temples. To build color intensity, apply more blush.

* For application, I much better prefer a (synthetic) duo-fiber brush such as the MAC 188 or Coastal Scents Tapered Duo Fiber Brush, although fingers can also be used.

Pink Frosting is a light pink that's a little bit on the cool side, with a scatter of fine, golden shimmer.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Blushes have a velvety soft, light and airy, whipped mousse texture that melts seamlessly into the skin. They can be applied in a thin layer for a soft wash of color, or they can be built with several layers for your desired look. I usually build up 2-3 very sheer layers for a pretty wash of pink on my cheeks.

Why choose a cream blush over a powder?
Cream blushes tend to give a boost of luminosity, dewiness and a fresher finish to the skin that a powder blush can't. Anyone could use cream blush, but the most beneficial skin type is for those with dry skin. Those with dry skin may find that powder blush makes their skin look dull, ashy or dry, because they're adding dry on top of dry. A cream blush will add moisture to the skin and keep the cheeks from looking dull. Very oily skin types are typically the least beneficial, as the excess oils will cause the blush to fade much quicker. You can also layer blushes for superior lasting power. Just apply a thin layer of creme blush and apply a sweep of a similar color powder blush over top!

Some cream blushes can be a bit tricky to apply. Some can be really thick or sticky, giving a blotchy end result. But, the mousse texture of the Maybelline blush really makes blending a synch.

Here's a close-up of Pink Frosting on my cheek. You can see that it looks very natural and radiant. It does contain shimmer, but it's not obnoxious. For personal preference though, the next time I pick up another shade, I will probably choose another shade sans shimmer. (BTW, do you see those sun spots!? I'm in need of a good sunscreen. Rec any??)

The lasting power is pretty average. It will fade a little bit by the end of the day, so I like to apply it a little heavier in the morning. Or, I'll sometimes I'll add a thin layer of powder blush over top - Something like Bobbi Brown Pale Pink, MAC Coygirl or MAC Dame.

Really happy with the overall performance of the blush, and I can't wait to try other shades! Have any favorites? Let me know in the comments below!

I heart Betsey Johnson Accessories.

Betsey Johnson has been one of my favorite brands for accessories, ever since I was introduced to the brand back in 2006, while working at a higher-end department store.

Her style is very brash, over-the-top and definitely one-of-a-kind. I love the bows, hearts, flowers, leopard print, poofs, peplums, sequins, glitter and more!

One thing I love about Betsey Johnson is that it's a brand that's widely available, and can be found at many of my local discounted stores, such as Nordstrom Rack, Marshalls, TJMaxx, Loehman's, etc, for a fraction of the retail price. I always love raiding the racks for hot pink tags. ;)

Here are a couple cold weather accessories I picked up this Winter..

Betsey Johnson Embroidered Leopard w/ Chain Fingerless Gloves
I found these at my local TJMaxx, along with the matching scarf. I only purchased the gloves, as I thought they would add a little pop of color against my solid black winter coat. I believe this style was from last year - Betsey Johnson came out with them again this year, only omiting the chain detailing.

The gloves are really roomy, with my only complaint being that the chain doesn't stretch, so it restrains the fingers from stretching apart, thus feeling slightly uncomfortable. I bet that's why they were taken out this year. ;)

The chain-less version can be found on the Betsey Johnson website, here.
The chain version can be found on Zappos, here.

Betsey Johnson Fluffy Fur Long Gloves
I was automatically drawn to these gloves at the Betsey Johnson store. They are cute, feminine and flashy, without being very over-the-top. They look great paired with a black faux fur scarf and any jacket, whether it's a leather jacket, pea-coat or winter jacket.

The only downside with these gloves is that the bows aren't sewed on quite well. I haven't even worn mine yet and half of the bow fell off on one of the gloves. It's an easy fix with a needle and string, but an inconvenience as they should be well constructed for the price ($48).

They are currently sold out on the website, but keep checking back if you're interested in them!

Did you sign up for Shoemint?

If many of you are on top of the newest launches, I'm sure you've already heard of Shoemint. But for those of you that haven't, I thought I'd quickly share, because I'm so excited about it!

Since Shoedazzle (were they the first ones?), there have been so many companies (celebrity collaborated) following the popular trend of a "monthly subscription" service, that's not for a magazine, but a pair of shoes, a box of beauty samples, fashion jewelry, clothing and more. What's more fun than that?

If you're familiar with the mint companies, JewelmintStylemint and Beautymint are existing monthly subscription services; Jewelmint, offering unique designs of fashion jewelry, Stylemint, offering high quality casual t-shirts and Beautymint, offering a skincare system. All of which are personalized to fit your individual wants and needs.

Shoemint is the newest mint, and launched on Black Friday.

The style of fashion icon Rachel Bilson, the vision of celebrated stylist Nicole Chavez, and the shoe-making expertise of the legendary Steve Madden, combine to bring you ShoeMint - a shoe shopping experience unlike any other.
Step into the impeccable style and craftsmanship of an inspired luxury shoe you could pay hundreds of dollars for -without having to.

It works the same as the other sites, and starts out with taking a "style quiz", which is a quick, multiple-choice quiz to learn your personal style. Based on your answers, the website will generate a "showroom" for you of the things that should suit your taste. You won't be charged to join, and take the style quiz. You will only be charged after your first purchase. Each month, your selection changes, and you have the choice whether to "skip" the month and not purchase anything, or you will be charged the monthly fee and your account will receive credit for one purchase. Not too complicated right? I swear it's less complicated than it sounds.

The monthly price for Shoemint is $79.98. It sounds expensive, but the shoes are real quality leather, suede and stitching and entail trendy, high-end designs. Similar style shoes will retail for at least double the price. And, with all of the mint sites, there are always coupon codes. (For ref, I'll never make a purchase from any of the sites without a good coupon code.)

I'm in love with all of the shoes. Sadly, I waited too long and my size is out of stock in all of the styles I wanted, so I'll have to wait until they restock more sizes. :( I love the Pauline (black), Jolly (leopard) and Editch (blush).

I can't wait to see the reviews that are going to pop up within the next few weeks once everyone starts receiving their shoes!

Covergirl CG Smoothers AquaSmooth Compact Foundation Review!

covergirl aqua smoothers compact foundation review

Covergirl CG Smoothers AquaSmooth Compact Foundation

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Designed with AquaCurrent Science, this vitamin-enriched formula directs moisture to your skin's surface to improve its condition over time, while giving smooth, even coverage that makes imperfections virtually vanish before your eyes. This solid makeup transforms into a liquid during application, then dries to an even, powder-light finish.

-Oil-Free and Noncomedogenic (won't clog pores)
-SPF 15 UVA/UVB Sunscreen
-Vitamins B3, B5, and E

There are fifteen (15) shades in total, and considering the compact is packaged closed (yes, the compact is shut and is packaged in plastic so you can't see the color), you'd pretty much have to play the guessing game when picking a shade at the store. The shades are as follows: Ivory 705, Classic Ivory 710, Natural Ivory 715, Creamy Natural 720, Buff Beige 725, Classic Beige 730, Medium Light 735, Natural Beige 740, Warm Beige 745, Creamy Beige 750, Soft Honey 755, Classic Tan 760, Tawny 765, Toasted Almond 770 and Soft Sable 775. Unfortunately, if you have very fair skin or deep-dark skin, there may not be a match for you. The main factor that brings down the rating of this foundation is the shade selection. There aren't enough golden/yellow shades, and many of the shades are too neutral (gray) or too pink. I was lucky to find a match for my non-tanned skin; Classic Ivory, which is a good MAC NC20 color match. It's also said to match NW20. From reviews, I've read that Buff Beige is good for NC25.

Classic Ivory
The consistency is a cream, that is thin and slippery to the touch. When applied to the skin, it has a velvety (silica), powder finish. Despite it being a cream, it is in no way thick or heavy. The compact includes a sponge, but I don't find the sponge yields flattering results. I prefer using a synthetic, flat top foundation brush, such as a Sigma F80 or Duo-Fiber Brush and applying it to my face in circular, buffing motions. In areas where I want a little extra coverage, I'll go back and apply a second layer, only to those areas, with short patting motions (as opposed to "sweeping") to really build the coverage. It's a very buildable foundation, so depending on how much you use, it can go from light to a heavier medium coverage. I wouldn't say it reaches "full" coverage, but a good medium.

The finish is a semi-matte, satin finish. It's very necessary to set with a powder, as cream formulas tend to transfer the easiest. I'll usually set with a setting powder such as Guerlain Meteorites or MAC Careblend Powder, but if I know it's going to be a long day, I'll dust my face with a powder foundation such as MAC Studio Fix Powder or Chanel Double Perfection Compact. It leaves my skin looking flawless.

The lasting power isn't the greatest. It's definitely not long lasting, and could use a couple of touch ups throughout the day. By hour 6, it has faded around my mouth and the tip of my nose, but is easily fixed with a quick sweep of my foundation brush and setting powder.

Left: Swatched on hand, Right: Blended
Too dull? Try dampening your brush before application to create a less, matte finish. Or, lightly mist your face with water before application.

Here's a quick photo of me wearing the foundation a few hours after it was applied.

PROS: Good, buildable coverage, blends very well without caking, doesn't accentuate dryness, convenient for quick application.
CONS: Limited color selection - limited tones for yellow/warm skin, very light and deep skin tones. From what I've read, many shades lean pink and/or orange. Also, the lasting power isn't the greatest. It isn't by any means a "long-lasting" foundation. Those with oily skin, may find it transfers/moved around easily.
PACKAGING: I have no complaints with the packaging. It's a (somewhat clunky) long, narrow compact, that is lightweight and carries a sponge applicator and mirror. Although the sponge isn't the best for application, it's useful for touch-ups.
OVERALL: I think it's a great foundation for those who apply their makeup on the go, as it's incredibly convenient. Because it blends so well, it's beneficial for those who aren't very experienced with applying makeup. It's also good for those that want good coverage for a lower price. Dry, Normal/Combination skin types will benefit the best from this foundation, as I find the texture too slippery for those with Oily skin.

The price differs from each retailer, but the average price is around $8. The product contains .4 oz/12g as opposed to MAC Studio Tech (Creme Compact) that retails for $29.50 at 0.35 oz/10 g of product. Value-wise, you will most likely get the most bang for your buck with a liquid foundation, that are typically 1 oz of product for the same price. I always find that I run out of creme foundations much quicker, even though creme foundations tend to pack more coverage (so you won't have to use as much). I already have a big dent in my Aquasmooth compact, so I'm sure I'll have to replace it soon with continued use.

My Current Skincare Routine.

It's been a while since I posted a skincare routine (since this past March) and for the past several months I've been following the same routine and it's been keeping my skin in good shape.

MY SKIN TYPE: My skin type year round is typically in the normal range, as I rarely suffer from dryness or excess oily skin. My skin is generally fairly clear with the exception of some minor, past blemish marks and light sun spots on my upper cheeks. My skin is also sensitive, and prone to break-outs. My breakouts usually occur on my lower cheeks.

AM:
(Cleanse) Cleanse my face using an Olay Pro-X Brush with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, rinse and pat dry.
(BHA/Blemish Control) Wipe a Stridex Pad all over my face; especially in areas prone to break-outs, let dry.
(Moisturizer) Apply a light moisturizer to my face such as DDF Ultra-lite Moisturizing Dew.

PM:
(Cleanse) Remove eye makeup with Jojoba Oil or Baby Oil and a cotton pad, wipe clean.
(Cleanse) Cleanse my face using an Olay Pro-X Brush with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, rinse and pat dry.
(AHA) (If my skin looks dull, or looks like it needs exfoliation, I will use an Ellen Lange Peel Accelerator Pad. If I use this, I will skip using a Stridex Pad, as I've read that using a BHA & AHA close together can cancel each other out. I'm not sure if it's true, but that's what I've been going by)
(BHA/Blemish Control) Wipe a Stridex Pad all over my face; especially in areas prone to break-outs, let dry.
(Serum/Treatment) Apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum all over my face to aid in hydration, let dry.
(Serum/Treatment) Apply Clarins Vital Light Serum all over my face to aid in evening out my complexion, let dry.
(Night Cream) Apply Reviva Labs Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin C Ester, DMAE Night Cream, sometimes adding a drop of Argan Oil for added moisture and healing.

When I follow this routine, my skin looks it's best. It's hydrated, my complexion is even and radiant and I shouldn't have any breakouts (Unless it's hormonal). There are many instances where I will skip my routine from tiredness, and my skin ends up suffering the consequences with a scatter of blemishes. I always make sure to at least cleanse my face and use a Stridex Pad, if I'm not up to the rest, in order to avoid breakouts.

I love all of the products mentioned and I will continue using them until I find any better replacements. If you have any questions about any particular product mentioned, or have any recommendations, let me know in the comments below!

NOTD: Barielle Sailors Delight; A Perfect Pink!

Two (2) Coats of Barielle Sailors Delight and One (1) Coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat

Barielle Sailors Delight is described on the Barielle website as a "dusty mauve cream". I would describe it as a medium-toned, neutral pink. In some lighting, the neutral undertone gives it an almost lilac pink appearance. I find it a little difficult finding the correct shade of pink that isn't too bright, too light or dark, and applies opaque. A pink that is "work friendly".

There's nothing obnoxious about this pink. It's slightly vivid, yet perfectly muted, and it's not too "mauve" where it's ages your hands. Application is really good, it applies opaque from the start, and is completely opaque with two coats. As far as the wear goes, I'll have to wait and see!

Barielle's Nail Polishes are formaldehyde free, toluene free, D8P free and pregnancy safe.

Barielle Nail Polish and Products can be found at various beauty supply stores and retailers around the US. For a list of locations, click here. I've spotted Barielle at my local TJMaxx/Marshalls stores and some ULTA locations. I purchased this bottle at ULTA on clearance for $2.99.

Maybelline Superstay 24 HR Makeup Review!

maybelline superstay foundation review

Maybelline Superstay 24 HR Makeup

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Foundation gives superior coverage and provides 24-hour wear. Superstay 24HR Makeup by Maybelline incorporates a Micro-Flex technology formulated to withstand heat, sweat and humidity - yet stays comfortable and looks flawless. Oil-free makeup will not transfer. Dermatologist tested. Fragrance Free. Suitable for all skin types.

There are twelve (12) shades in total, so finding your perfect match may be a little difficult with the limited shade selection. The shades are as follows: Porcelain Ivory, Sand Beige, Classic Ivory, Natural Beige, Nude, Classic Beige, Pure Beige, Natural Tan, True Beige, Honey Beige, Caramel and Cocoa. I purchased this foundation because I was in need of a foundation to wear when I'm not tan, so I chose the shade "Sand Beige", which seems to be around the MAC NC20 coloring.

Alright, so we all know that "24-hours" is a bit of a stretch in terms of wear for most foundations. You're not going to look like Cinderella for 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds, and then poof! your makeup will blotch. Makeup companies tend to "stretch" (insanely exaggerate) the claims, so a product will sound appealing to the consumer. Even though this doesn't last 24 hours, it does have really good lasting power.

Let me start off with the color, like I already mentioned, I chose "Sand" which is the 2nd lightest color. It's a good match for the MAC NC20 coloring. It's more on the beige/neutral side, but it does warm up to my skin a bit. Because of the beige tone, it doesn't match my neck 100%, so with my foundation brush, I'll swirl the residue on my neck. The lightest color seemed a bit pink, and would probably be best for MAC NW15-20. If you're very fair (lighter than NC/NW15, there is no perfect match). For NC25-30, Nude seems like a good choice as there are are a good balance of yellow tones. Classic Beige can also work for NC30-35, as there are a fair amount of yellow tones (but, more beige than Nude).

In the photo on the left, the foundation is swatched on my hand to show the color, and blended on the right. You can clearly see the coverage is good, as it blurs out all imperfections on my hand. It looks a little pink, but don't worry, it doesn't look like that on my face.

The consistency is a little on the thick side, and for those that are use to thinner foundations may feel that this is a little difficult to work with. Because it's a little thicker and dries quickly, I always apply a light coating of a moisturizer to my face to help the foundation blend easier. I find it works well when applied with the fingers, but I like applying it with a flat top foundation brush the best, using light patting motions and then circular motions to blend. The coverage is on the heavier-medium, and is buildable to an almost full coverage. It covers 90% of my blemishes, while completely evening out my skin. The finish is pretty matte, so I never feel the need to set with a powder.

I am really impressed with the wear of this foundation, as it doesn't seem to get oily/shiny throughout the day, and it stays put very well. I do find that by the evening (after 7-8 hours) it will have faded from my nose and a little bit around the mouth. So, I will touch it up with my foundation brush at around that time. When it's time to remove the foundation, a cleanser is necessary.

I've seen several reviews, and many say that it photographs well, but in my experience, it gives me a slight gray cast in photos. Estee Lauder Double Wear does the same for me.

Overall though, I really like this foundation and think it's one of the better drugstore foundations. I'll be wearing it on those days where I need the extra coverage.

Here are a couple photos of me wearing the foundation with no powder or bronzer.

PROS: Excellent coverage, lasts well throughout the day, blends well.
CONS: Limited color selection - limited tones for yellow/warm skin, very light and deep skin tones, can sometimes make my skin look dull.
PACKAGING: The packaging is pretty standard. As with any foundation, I wish it had a pump for sanitary reasons and for convenience. It's also a little heavy, as it's thick glass - so it weighs down my bag a bit.
OVERALL: It's an overall great foundation for those with some hyper-pigmentation, acne scars, or for those who want good coverage for a lower price. Normal, Combination to Oily skin types will benefit the best from this foundation as it has a matte finish and doesn't seem to get oily throughout the day. Dry skin types may find it difficult to apply, and can possibly make the skin appear duller/drier. If you have dry skin, I'd recommend moisturizing prior or adding a drop of moisturizer into the foundation being applied.

Recent Swag. (Jeffrey Campbell, Betsey Johnson, F21 & More)

Hey Everyone!

I thought it would be fun to post a haul of some accessories I've acquired in the past couple of months. It's all kind of random, but I love when other bloggers have posts like these ;)

I was hoping to link several of the items back to the websites, but every single Forever 21 item I purchased isn't listed on the website. I'm guessing a big majority of accessories became sold out during their recent 30% off sale. So, I apologize in advance for that!

Jeffrey Campbell Tick Stud Shoes
Betsey Johnson Raven Sunglasses
L.A.M.B. Cosmetic Bag
The Extras Alison in Chains Necklace
Leaf Wrap Two-Finger Ring
Bueno Faux Fur Bag
Madden Girl Sookiee Gold Glitter Slingback Heels
1) Heart Locket Bracelet (Random Wholesale Shop in Chicago)
2) Silver Curb Chain Bangle Set (Forever 21) I love these bangles for every day. I love that they can be paired with a casual or dressed up outfit. I usually wear them with anything black, as they have an "edgy" feel to them.
3) Betsey Johnson Raven BK214 Sunglasses (Marshall's) I've wanted a pair of classic Ray-Ban sunglasses for a while, but the frames look too small on my face. These are a similar style, and they actually fit my face well. They are regular $55, and I got them for $7! Love deals like that.
4) Assorted Rhinestone Earrings (Forever 21)
5) Two Finger Leaf Ring (Forever 21) I thought this ring was kinda cute and different, and it was only $3.80.
6) Bow Necklace (Forever 21) I had a huge thing for bows for the past couple of years, but I've been slowly stemming out of the bow phase.. I couldn't pass this one up though. ;)
7) The Extras, Alison in Chains Necklace (Karmaloop)
8) Bueno Faux Fur Handbag (Marshalls) I've been wearing this bag for a few weeks now and I think it's really cute. It's extra roomy and well made for the $24.99 price tag. They had several other colors in stock as well.
9) Antique Gold Collar Necklace (Forever 21) This necklace caught my eye because it reminded me of the Jewelmint Astoria Necklace. I haven't worn it yet, but I'm excited to!
10) Woven Black & Gold Bracelet (Charolette Russe) I found this little gem in the clearance bin for $1.99. I've worn it several times and I'm really surprised it hasn't tarnished.
11) L.A.M.B Saddle Cosmetic Bag (TJMaxx) What drew me to purchasing this little bag aside from the price (Clearance for $20) is the material of the bag. It's PVC with leather trim - it's soft, very durable and easy to clean. I mainly purchased it to store my coupons and gift cards, as I don't want to ruin it with my makeup.
12) Madden Girl Sookiee Glitter Heels (Carson's) I don't actually own a pair of glitter heels and I thought these were cute for a night out or for the holidays. They were on Clearance for only $20.
13) Jeffrey Campbell Tick Stud Shoes (Karmaloop) I saved my favorite for last. These were a complete impulse buy, and I'm very happy to say that I'm incredibly satisfied with them. I wore them once already and they are shockingly, very comfortable. I'll post a review on them soon.

What have you had your eyes on lately?!

At the start of 2011, Physician's Formula released the "Happy Booster" line of blushes, bronzers and face powders. It's not really a large line; there are two shades in each category. They seemed to take off really well in the online makeup community, but I held off as I figured I didn't really need them, plus Physician Formula's products tend to be a little pricey.

Well, my blog bestie Cheryl was extra sweet and sent me this blush a couple weeks ago to cheer me up during all what I've been going through lately. How sweet was that? It really does make me smile every time I use it because I think of her - I can't exactly say it's a cause of the "happy boost infused blend" haha!

There are two blush shades to choose from; Rose and Natural. Both are pretty similar, but Rose is a brighter pink, whereas Natural is more of a muted, warm pink. I have Natural, and although I own several blushes, I don't own any that closely compare. There are a handful of different color hearts - a raspberry pink, baby pink, tawny/brown pink, nude pink, etc and when all the shades are swirled together, a luminous warm pink with subtle shimmer is created. I wouldn't say it's overly shimmery or frosty. I'd compare it to a MAC Sheertone Shimmer finish. It's a color that would look great on any skin tone - especially for those of you that have trouble finding a pink blush that isn't too neutral, blue or purple.

Physician's Formula Happy Booster Blush in Natural
The blush itself is silky soft and applies sheer with one thin layer, but can be easily built up. I always apply it a little heavy and go back with my setting powder and kabuki brush to soften the edges and tone it down if necessary. The color looks really natural and adds such a healthy color to my face. It's a great color for every day, that doesn't seem to clash with any of my other makeup.

I usually end up disappointed with the staying power of drugstore line blush, but this blush seems to last all day.

Also, like mentioned in the product description, it has a slight (violet) fragrance that I really enjoy. It's no where near as potent as Chanel Joues Contraste Blushes or other scented cosmetics I've used. I can only really smell it when I put my nose up to the pan.

The only bad thing that can really be said is that the packaging stinks. All of Physician's Formula products have bulky, plain packaging with a clear lid that gets scuffed up like crazy when tossed in my cosmetic bag. Also, the brush is too scratchy to be usable. To the PF PR: If you're reading this, I think it's about time to re-vamp your packaging. Just a thought. Love yours truly, Natty.
Here is is swatched heavily on my hand. So gorgeous!

PROS: Great blendability, soft texture, buildable coverage, natural finish, beautiful color
CONS: None for the actual product! Unless you strongly dislike fragrance in your makeup - I know many out there despise it, and it may cause irritations for others.
PACKAGING: A little bulky, Not very appealing (but what drugstore product does have nice packaging anyway..) The design is cute though, and I like that the compact is pink and that the pan flips upward, exposing a mirror and compartment for the brush that's included.
OVERALL: This blush has quickly become one of my top choices as my go-to blushes for daily wear. It's definitely a new favorite of mine and I highly recommend it!

Oldie but Goodie: Dior Five Golds 5-Colour Eyeshadow Palette + Swatches!

Dior Five Golds 5-Colour Eyeshadow

I typically don't like posting about products that are limited edition from old collections or that are discontinued, but I had to make an exception for Dior's Five Golds Quint. I got a hold of this beauty in a blog sale for a fraction of the price, and I'm loving it!

Five Golds was one of the two, 5-Colour Eyeshadow palettes available last winter from Dior's 2010 Holiday Collection. Five Golds includes a charcoal black with silver sparkles (reminiscent of MAC Black Tied); metallic copper-gold; metallic medium-toned bronzed brown; metallic silver and a pale, shimmery golden ivory.

I was automatically drawn to the palette ever since it launched because I'm a big fan of warm and neutral palettes, as well as palettes that contain all of the shades necessary to create a daytime and nighttime look. Why didn't I purchase it then?? Who knows. I'm a bit of a procrastinator, and I'm still kicking myself for not getting a hold of the Summer 2011 Dior's Aurora Bronzer and literally punching myself for not getting Chanel's Topkapi Palette. Someone please tell me they aren't all that so I won't feel so bad. haha! The colors in this palette can all be used at once (without looking over-the-top), with no additional shadows needed. I rarely come across a Dior palette with 5 shades to my liking, so I'm really happy with this particular palette.

Dior Five Golds
As far as texture goes, all of the shades are very smooth and blend easily. The pigmentation is excellent for all shades, with the exception of the lightest golden ivory shade. It's very sheer and applies almost like a shimmery pigment, that when blended, all that's left behind is a scatter of sparkles. It applies much better when packed over a base, otherwise, it looks nice on the inner corners or all over the lid for a little bit of shimmer.

Although the shadows perform well without a base, using a base will keep the colors from fading or disappearing throughout the day (especially if you have oily skin). I like using MAC Paint Pots. I'd probably use Indianwood or Bare Study.

Dior Five Golds
All shades swatched over freshly moisturized skin.

Is this palette a must-have?
Not entirely - It's definitely a palette worth giving a chance if you happen to spot one on any blog sales or makeup swaps. None of the shades are that unique, and are easily dupe-able with other brands. But, it's the convenience of having all of the shades you need in one very practical, compact palette. Also, the Dior quality is definitely there. Dior palettes are sometimes a hit or miss, but this palette doesn't contain any chalky or powdery shades. I'm very happy with this palette and I'm certain it will be one of my go-to palettes for every day.

What's your favorite quint? I've had Earth Reflection on my "to-buy in the near future" list for ages now. I've spotted it in several blog sales, and every single time I've messaged the seller to purchase it, the sale always fell through. Nuts! Maybe it wasn't meant to be.

Revlon Age Defying with DNA Advantage Foundation Review!

revlon age defying dna foundation review

Revlon Age Defying with DNA Advantage Foundation

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: New Revlon Age Defying with DNA Advantage Cream Makeup combines makeup + powerful anti-aging skincare to help protect skin's DNA to fight the signs of aging. 96% of women saw flawless, younger-looking skin in two weeks. Lines and wrinkles are visibly diminished while skin is refreshed, hydrated, revitalized. SPF 20.

Sounds far fetched, doesn't it? Well, I particularly didn't pick this foundation up for it's anti-aging properties, as I don't have very visible signs of aging yet. You can say that I'm a fan of Revlon, and their foundations, so when I found an incredible sale on this new foundation, I had to pick one up. What I really liked about it is that it has a SPF of 20, and any extra SPF in my skincare is always a bonus (as long as I'm not being photographed.. white cast - eek!!)

There are eight (8) shades in total, which might make it a little difficult in finding your perfect color match. Lately, I've been sticking around the MAC coloring of NC20 and I picked up Bare Buff (the 2nd lightest color). It's a fair match, but it could use a hint of yellow, as it's more beige/neutral. I found the lightest shade (Fresh Ivory) to be very pink. So, very limited options for those who are very fair and for those with deep skin tones. If I was around my normal NC30-35, I'd probably pick up Medium Beige, as it seems to have a good balance of golden hues. Bear in mind, it may be difficult in finding your match, as the thick plastic bottle leaves a lot to the imagination of what exact color is inside. It's a little easier to see the color when you turn the bottle upside down.

The consistency is very light and creamy - almost like a whipped liquid. It's very easy to work with, as it spreads and blends with little effort. The coverage is a light-medium, and can be easily built to a heavier medium. My favorite way to apply it is with a synthetic, flat top brush, such as the Coastal Scents Bionic Flat Top Buffer Brush, in small circular motions. The finish is in between dewy and satin. It's not overly dewy, but a setting powder is definitely needed to avoid transfer throughout the day. It looks really radiant and fresh on the skin. On my "no make-up, make-up" days I like using a small pump of this foundation and it looks very natural and gives a slight glow to my skin. This foundation does in fact contain shimmer (don't panic, it's nothing like Revlon Photoready or MAC Hyper Real). I don't notice it at all and I've been wearing this foundation all month. The lasting power is okay - 6 hours max before it all starts to fade away. Also, by the end of the day, my face feels oily, even though it's not at all (MAC Studio Fix Fluid does the same thing for me if I wear it for too many hours). Have I noticed better looking skin in two weeks? Nope. But results may vary from person to person. I'd say don't get your hopes up though for it's "promising" claims and leave that to your skincare.

To show off the finish of the foundation, I blended it slightly in the photo on the left and blended it almost completely in the photo on the right. You can definitely tell it's luminosity..

Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of me wearing this foundation, but I will update this post with a photo the next time I'm wearing it.

PROS: Lightweight, Moisturizing/Emollient, SPF 20, Radiant finish.
CONS: Color Selection: Not enough shades to benefit all skin undertones, Lasting power could be better, Pricey for a drugstore foundation ($15), Some may find it too "greasy" - especially those with oily skin.
PACKAGING: I don't have any complaints with the packaging. It's made of a thick lightweight plastic, so it doesn't weigh down my bag. Also, it has a pump, which is a major plus. The only complaint I have is that it's difficult to tell how much is left in the bottle.
OVERALL: Overall, I think this is a good foundation for those with dry to normal skin. Because it contains several moisturizing ingredients, it should be particularly beneficial to those with dry skin. Also, the slight shimmer would be beneficial to dry skin types as it will add radiance to dull or aged skin. Although it has good coverage, for those who need full coverage, I'd recommend trying Colorstay, as it lasts much longer without fading. I think this foundation is more geared toward those with relatively clear (acne-free) skin, so for those of you that would like to hide minor imperfections and even out your skintone, this foundation is worth a try.
