Autumn Smokey Eyes Tutorial

I wanted to show you an eye look that I've really been loving lately, and have been recreating on most days I've been going out. The star of this look is MAC Club Eyeshadow, which is a really beautiful soft brown with reddish undertones and a metallic green duochrome. What I love about it is that it can transform with whatever base you use. In this look I've layered Club over a black base, and it makes the green tone really stand out and appear as a beautiful, rich emerald green. On the rest of the lid where the black wasn't applied, it appears as a reddish-brown. So before I even picked up any other eyeshadows, it looked like I've already used more than one. 

For a cheaper alternative to MAC Club ($15), Wet n Wild has a great dupe in their Comfort Zone Color Icon Palette ($4.99). You'd actually be able to re-create most of this look with the Comfort Zone palette.

*For this tutorial I used the site Beauty Sets to quickly and easily create a collage of images. Please let me know if you find this method of tutorial confusing. It's much easier and less time consuming for me, but if they aren't helpful, I'll continue doing them the way I did before. Thanks!!

Autumn Smokey Eyes in 10 Steps

Step 1: Prime your eyelids. (Photo #1)

Step 2: Apply black cream/gel liner to the top lash-line. It doesn't have to be perfect, because in the next step we are going to smudge it. (Photo #2)



Step 3: Quickly before the liner sets, use a small brush to smudge the liner. Drag the liner upward and extend it slightly outward. I dragged the liner up the highest at the end of my eye. (Photo #3. When it's done, it should look like Photo #4)

Step 4: Apply MAC Club Eyeshadow all over the lid, covering the black liner. Also, smudge it through and slightly above the crease of the eye. Make sure to blend out any harsh edges of the black. (Photo #5)

Step 5: Using a tapered blending brush, buff MAC Bamboo in the area above the crease. Lightly blend Bamboo into the edges of Club so there are no harsh lines. Extend Bamboo upward. (Photo #6)

Step 6: Apply MAC Jest Eyeshadow as a highlight under the eyebrow. (Photo #7)

Step 7: Apply the same black eyeliner to the bottom lash-line and smudge the line with a small brush. (Photo #8)

Step 8: Apply MAC Mulch Eyeshadow on top of the black eyeliner on the lower lash-line. Then, apply MAC Woodwinked for a pop of gold along the beginning 1/3rd of the lower lash-line. (Photo #9)

Step 9: Apply Mascara. For more intensity, add false lashes. I used lashes cut in half for more drama, that's not over the top. (Photo #10)

Step 10: Apply a gold eyeliner pencil to the bottom waterline. If you don't have gold, brown or black would work great. Or, you can keep it bare. (Not pictured)

Kristen Stewart Burgundy Smokey Eye Tutorial

Kristen Stewart’s looks on the red carpet have been hit or miss. This burgundy smokey eye look happens to be one of the more popular ones and is my favourite look of hers because she rarely goes out in anything pink or girly, so a cranberry/burgundy smokey eye look is a great way to make her grunge-y style appear more feminine.

FACE

The eyes are the main focus, so keep the rest of the face looking natural. Apply something sheer like the MAC Face and Body Foundation, and buff it in to achieve your desired coverage. Conceal any dark circles or blemishes as well. To set the foundation, apply a translucent powder very lightly over the sides of the forehead, jaw line and chin. Leave a bit of shine on the T-zone.

A light pink blush may be applied to the cheeks, but is not entirely necessary as the overall finish is very subtle and natural. Ladies with naturally rosy cheeks may skip this step.

LIPS

Kristen doesn’t look like she has a lot on, just a nude lip liner and a peachy-toned gloss. Go for something that’s close to your natural lip color so it doesn’t overpower the eye makeup.

EYES

1 Prime your lids with your primer of choice. I’m using the Nars Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base.



2. I’m using a black eyeliner as a base for my eyeshadow. This will help create a deeper black later on. There’s no need to be overly neat about it just yet.



3. Blend this out into a slight wing, with the deepest black near the lash line. Keep adding eyeliner and continue blending until you have a nice black smokey eye.



4. Take a warm brown eyeshadow like Mulch by MAC and apply that to the eye socket with a tapered blending brush.



5. Then take a matte black eyeshadow and pat it over the lid to set the eyeliner. Use a blending brush to blend the shadow upwards over the rest of the eyeliner base.







6. You’ll need a berry colored eyeshadow for this step. I’m using Cranberry by MAC. Pack the color onto the lid, making sure to cover the inner corners until you are almost to the outer corners of the lid. Don’t forget to put a little bit along the lower lashline as well.



7. Take the same matte black eyeshadow as earlier and apply it on the outer corners of the lid in a V shape. Make sure this color is blended into the berry-toned eyeshadow.

8. Line the top and bottom waterlines with black pencil liner. You can also add a bit of mascara if you want. I opted not to because it doesn’t make much difference on my short lashes anyway.

Natural Olive Green Eyeshadow Tutorial.

A super-quick tutorial today using a few different products. It's very simple, but I really like the combination of shades, and I've been wearing it often for day or night.

You can add white pencil liner to the waterline to brighten up the eyes, or add black liner for a more intense look. I sometimes like popping a little black liner on my lid and cutting some false lashes in half and add them to the the outer half of my eyes for added drama.

Green and Brown Cut Crease Eyeshadow Tutorial!

Green is actually one of my favorite colors, but I normally shy away from colored eye shadow. I've been wanting to do a look with green eye shadow, so this morning I decided to mess around a little bit with some green and snap some photos during the process.

Green looks great paired with almost every color. It's a earthy color, so it looks great paired with warm autumn shades (brown, gold, burgundy, orange, etc.) and it also works well paired with bright, floral shades (pink, purple, blue, etc.) You all know that I love my neutral and warm shades - so my favorite pairing is brown and gold.

I actually don't own very many green eye shadows - in fact, I got rid of most of them a while ago because they started collecting dust in my drawers (well, not exactly, but you know what I mean.) I would've loved to use an olive green for this look - I've had MAC Sumptuous Olive on my "to buy at some point" list for ages, so I'm definitely going to add it to the top of my shopping list.

*A non-shimmery base would've worked better for this tutorial - I used gold to warm up the green, but this base in particular made the otherwise smooth, pigmented green appear patchy.

*A thinner line with a matte, cream eyeliner would've worked better for this tutorial (I made it too thick, and it was pretty much irreversible!)

*When using tape, make sure to press the tape on the back of your hand a couple of times before applying it to your face. You don't want it to be very sticky, because you don't want the tape pulling your skin when you remove it.

Smokey Taupe Eyeshadow Tutorial

One of my favorite eyeshadows is MAC Satin Taupe. It's a really pretty frosty taupe (gray brown) that looks great with a variety of looks. It looks amazing paired with brown and burgundy - One of my favorite ways of wearing it is by applying a dark brown base to my lids and layering Satin Taupe over top, to intensify and slightly deepen the color, then apply a soft golden brown through the crease, and a reddened brown through the outer-v. The burgundy mixed with the taupe almost gives off a slightly mauve/plum tone that really brings out the green in my eyes. 

I'll be doing just that in this tutorial, but I'm making the look a bit more dramatic by adding black eyeshadow and liner. 

To make this look more daytime appropriate: The black shadow, liner and faux lashes are what really intensify this look, so for something a little lighter and more wearable during the day, skip step 7, 9, 10 and 12. You really don't have to line your eyes at all (I wear this look often during the day without liner), but if you'd really like to, you can opt for a dark brown liner for the top lash line.
