Yves Saint Laurent YSL 'Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils' Longwear Cream Eyeliner in Deep Black!

YSL 'Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils' Longwear Cream Eyeliner

The Eyeliner Effect Faux Cils Cream Liner is one of Yves Saint Laurent's newer additions, along with their latest Shocking Mascara and Shocking Eyeliner Pen.

What's peaked my interest about this cream eyeliner, is it's said to be waterproof, smudgeproof and (24 hour) long lasting. What product labeled "lasts for 24 hours" isn't tempting, anyway?

"creates a spectacularly intense line without creasing or flaking. Its soft, silky formula formulated with quick-drying oils creates a lightweight base for smooth application without skipping. Beautiful and mess-proof, it stays put for smudge-proof, all-day wear."

YSL Eyeliner Effect Faux Cils is available in 6 shades: #1 Deep Black, #2 Ashy Black, #3 Bronze Black, #4 Sea Black, #5 Cherry Black and #6 Jade Black. Depending on where you're ordering from, you can become easily confused with the names. For instance, on the Nordstrom website, #2 Ashy Black is called #2 Black Grey or #5 Cherry Black is called #5 Black Burgundy. The numbers always stay the same, though.

#1 Deep Black is an intense black for those who prefer their blacks to be very dark.

Swatches from Left to Right: YSL Eyeliner Effect Faux Cils Cream Eyeliner in #1 Deep Black, Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Liner in Black Ink, Stila Smudgepot in Black, Wet n Wild Mega Eyes Cream Eyeliner in Black and MAC Smolder Eye Kohl.**I haven't purchased MAC Blacktrack Fluidline in a couple of years, so I won't be able to compare. I've also never owned a Clinique Cream Liner, which are a very popular choice, and a good value.

All of the swatches are one layer that have completely dried. You can see that the YSL liner is the deepest and richest black.

I've only had this liner for a few days now, but I can already tell it's going to climb it's way to my favorite gel/cream liner.

The consistency is a little on "firm" more of a condensed gel rather than a soft cream, in comparison to Stila Smudgepot or BB Gel Liner, but it glides on with ease. It doesn't flake or crumble throughout the day, and it really is long lasting. After a 10 hour day, it hasn't disappeared (For reference, I usually apply it over MAC Brule Eyeshadow - my usual lid color/base, rather than applying it to bare skin. I don't usually get oily lids.)

Once applied, you have a short time to smudge it with a brush into the lashline for a less precise, softer line.

It's a little on the pricey side, comparable (a few dollars more expensive) to Bobbi Brown, at $25 per 2.8g, whereas Bobbi Brown is $22 per 3g. MAC (3g) and Clinique (4.8g) are both $15.
